QUICK HITTERS

The transfer portal is wild. I just heard of two D-2 guys leaving their school. My only question with it is, what if no one picks them up? Now they’re out of a scholarship.

The job of an assistant coach at the college level has to be tougher than ever. But then again, if you look at some of the salaries these guys are pulling in, it’s not a bad gig.

Jason Whitlock’s latest take on WNBA salaries was deep. He went all in. “In more than 30 years of history, the WNBA has never once turned a profit, what business overpays? They’re already overpaid at $75,000 a year,” Whitlock said during the “Truth Bomb” segment of his “Fearless” podcast.

Reggie Miller’s comments about Anthony Davis wanting to miss a free-throw down the stretch was…dumb. Up two, 2.7 remaining, one shot. Miller said, “Here’s things that you talk about on the bus as players,” Miller said with the Lakers leading, 108-106, during the play-in tournament. “If he makes the first one, you’re up three. Do you try to purposely miss the second one, knowing that they have no timeouts…”

HUH?

All the talk about MVP, Rookie-of-the-Year, Coach-of-the-year, etc. is weak. Just win baby!

Saw a sign this morning; “Be nice or leave.”

Always play the right way…

TRANSFER PORTAL

Lots of talk about high school and college athletes who transfer from one school to another.

I have no problem with kids packing up and splitting.

Let them leave and go to another spot.

A coach splits town after one season or maybe two. We’ve seen it for years. In 2001 Thad Matta was the head coach at his alma mater, Butler, for one season. After going 24-8 he left for Xavier.

I have seen assistant coaches do it too.

All these clown college coaches accepting a transfer has no problem with a kid who leaves one school and has interest in their place.

Two great basketball players; Larry Bird and Chris Mullin both transferred.

Bird left the University of Indiana after one month to attend Indiana State.Too bad Kent Benson treated him shitty.LB might’ve stayed in Bloomington.

Mullin left Power Memorial High School as a junior for Xaverian.

You can think back and name many others.

Stop criticizing someone for switching schools. It’s not too bad of an idea.We have no idea what the athlete is going through.

10 Outta 10 told me a story of a co-worker who attended Michigan State as a freshman. She struggled fitting in.Missed her family who lived 8 hours away. After doing poorly in school, this young lady decided to transfer and move back home. Years later, she turned out fine.

I don’t care how many athletes are in the transfer portal, leaving a school is not a bad thing.

Hope all is well…

TRANSFER PORTAL

Many college ball players (men and women) around the country packing their bags and leaving school to transfer to another school.

The men’s transfer portal has over 1,000 athletes. This year the NCAA has issued a one-time transfer pass; an athlete doesn’t have to sit out a year if he or she decides they want a fresh start at a different school.

Some people criticize it, some are cool with it.

As for me, I’m okay with it.

If you look back at the history of college basketball, many athletes have transferred. Off the the top of my head I come up with…

Larry Bird, Kyle Macy, Gerard Trapp, Bo Kimble, Hank Gathers (RIP), Bryn Forbes, Duncan Robinson, and many others. Back in the day St. John’s University did very well with transfers.

Baylor, the men’s National Champion had 4 transfers on their team.

There are a handful of reasons why college athletes transfer. I’m sure the #1 reason is playing time. Some are homesick, a new head coach comes in or it’s not what they thought it would. They are 16, 17 and 18 years-old. It’s a tough decision when choosing a school. Everyone makes mistakes, especially at that stage of their lives.

Say what you want about kids that transfer, I have no problem with it.
