TAJ GIBSON

Steve Serby of the New York Post interviews Taj Gibson.  Taj mentions Gary Simms and Booger Smith.  (Thanks to Ray LeBov of http://basketballintelligence.net/)

Q: Describe your on-court mentality.
A: Intense … real locked-in.  And I turn into a different person, other than when I’m outside. I may smile to my family that’s sitting in the stands for one second, then it’s cold turkey. I don’t really know anybody else.

Q: Describe what that person is like on the court.
A: I’m ferocious. I’m gonna hit you. My job is to protect my teammates, set hard screens and just play ferocious. Just whatever it takes — dive on the floor, dive on the ball. It’s kind of like an out-of-body experience. Whatever it takes to get the job done, you don’t really care.

EFFORT

Cleveland Cavaliers focusing on the little things.

Tristan Thompson admitted.  “I think it just comes with effort. Our effort hasn’t been there, whether it’s rest or guys not watching the film or whatever, we have to get back to that. If you just give an effort you can be in a lot of games.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JO-JO WHITE

Happy birthday to the late Jo-Jo White.

As a kid I watched him film a Pro-Keds commercial at Bishop Ford high school.

I almost had his shoes.

A production manager or something like that came running over, grabbed them off the floor and said, “Jo-Jo, you forgot these…”

JoJo-3

Boston, MA — 8/20/02 — PROFILE OF RETIRED PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE — JoJo White was a Boston Celtic from 1969 to 1981, when he retired. He’s Director of Special Projects/Community Relations Representative, working in the Celtics’ corporate offices. He says this picture (of himself), that hangs on his office wall, was taken “about 1972-’73.” (Story by Mark Feeney)

SHARE THE BALL

John Beilein wants his team to pass the ball more.

“I don’t think we’re intentionally not doing it,” Beilein said. “I think we’re just trying to find out. The pass that nobody talks about, anywhere, any of you guys talk about, really leads to the assist. And we can’t make that play just yet.”

The Cavaliers are 27th in assists.
