GET YOUR MIND RIGHT

This past week we have had two Pro basketball players come out and basically apologize for having a bad attitude when it came to being coachable and being a great teammate. I posted Andre Drummond’s comments in the last blog entry and now Dion Waiters comes out and admits to a few things he could have done better. Thanks to Ray LeBov at Basketball Intelligence for the article.

To his son: “I told him, ‘Bro, your dad is not [out of] the league because of talent. It was my attitude, my character, and not understanding that it’s bigger than me.”

“We weren’t drafted, so we had to get here a different way. It’s that chip on your shoulder, that hungriness you need, to know that there were days you were on the outside looking in.”  -Tim Frazier

One of the good guys in college basketball, Rob Murphy, has written a book.  https://www.wemu.org/post/life-lessons-emu-basketball-coach-rob-murphys-book-about-challenges-he-faced-growing

Another good guy, Stan Van Gundy working for TNT.  SVG has an amazing basketball mind and knows how to deliver.   https://awfulannouncing.com/nba/stan-van-gundy-finds-optimal-situation-with-turner-sports.html

I have been off of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook since September 15.  As the season gets closer, I am itching to get back on.  There is a lot of decent content on these outlets – but I am not sure about the negative stuff?  Someone sent me this bit of information from Twitter:

Via the Chicago Sun Times Chicago Bull Zach LaVine on the analytics, mid-range shots, three’s and layups.

“I mean I grew up being a Michael Jordan, Kobe [Bryant] fan,’’ LaVine told the Chicago Sun Times. “I know that some of the greatest scores in NBA history were mid-range, mid-post guys. It’s sad to see it be pushed to the side. I mean Carmelo [Anthony] is one of the greatest scorers ever, but he’s out of the NBA right now somewhat because the analytics don’t want mid-range 2’s.”

A few years ago one of my players didn’t agree with me when I said we will shoot 3’s and layups only.  Our record that years was 23-1.

Happy birthday Ricky Rubio and Johnny Davis.
