The Kansas City Star on Frank Haith, new men’s head basketball coach at Missouri who used to be the coach at the University of Miami. He’s been mentioned with connection to the possible violations committed at the ‘U’. Seems like the guy in jail, Nevin Shapiro has admitted to paying a basketball player $10,000. Do you think if the NCAA finds any serious problems with Haith’s involvement, he should lose his job at Missouri?
Missouri basketball coach Frank Haith denies an allegation that he “acknowledged” a $10,000 payment made to then-University of Miami recruit DeQuan Jones while Haith was the coach of that school’s basketball program.
Former Wright State head coach Paul Biancardi lost his job when it was found that he was involved in violations at Ohio State when he was an assistant coach. Haith has spoken.
“The reports questioning my personal interactions with Mr. Shapiro are not an accurate portrayal of my character,” Haith said in a statement released through the University of Missouri shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday.
“The NCAA has instructed me not to comment further at this time in order to protect the integrity of their review.”
Jio Fontan, a senior guard who plays for USC and is a former Bob Hurley kid at Saint Anthony’s High School in Jersey City, New Jersey tore his ACL on a recent trip to Brazil with the Trojans…he’ll miss the entire season. Fontan is their best player. SC was 2-2 on the trip. “He’s the heart and soul of our team and he was playing at an unbelievable level, so it’s a huge blow,” Kevin O’Neill told the Mothership by phone from Rio de Janeiro.
Georgetown was involved in an ugly rumble with a Chinese pro team on a tour last week. I think it’s time to end these trips overseas; how much are these trips costing the school dollar-wise?
Are they that important?
Don’t give me that “team bonding” theory either. These kids are with each other day and night on campus. The NCAA should step in and do something. I’d rather see this time devoted to practice and academics.
So Reggie Miller may go to work for his old club, the Indiana Pacers? I think it’s a great idea. Matter of fact, I’d rather see Reggie on the sidelines coaching, instead of the front office.
Gordon Chiesa, former Utah Jazz assistant coach is now on Twitter. (@gchiesaohmy) I highly recommend you follow him; the former Manhattan Jasper head coach has a ton of knowledge on hoops.
Detroit Pistons guard Ben Gordon on new head coach Lawrence Frank, ”He’s very defensive minded and that’s something our team lacked last year. I’m looking forward to learning from him.”
The NFL has suspended Terrelle Pryor for the first 5 games of the season. Is this a good thing? The NFL getting involved with what goes on in the NCAA?
How about this, if the NFL wants to get involved with what goes on in the lecture halls, why not set a standard in the classroom in order to play in the pro’s? Maintain a 2.5 GPA for the semester before you can enter the draft?
