I grew up a New York Knicks fan. Like other fans of other teams, I have been through good and bad days; but it seems like it’s been more bad than good, especially the past 10 years. We haven’t won a ring since 1973.
Last night the Knicks pulled out a great win in South Beach over the Heat 91-86.
Chauncey Billups came up with 3 great plays late in the game, Amar’e Stoudemire came over from the weakside and had a great block on a LeBron James drive late in the game that would’ve made Marvin Webster smile and Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points as the Knicks have won 2 of their first 3 games since acquiring Billups and Anthony.
The Knicks showed that great defense beats great offense!
“The bigger the game, the bigger the stage, the bigger they play,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said.
A big key for the Knicks win was making their last 17 free-throws of the game.
I’m not about to declare the Knicks Eastern Conference champions and put them in the same group as the Heat, Celtics and Bulls, but they are knocking on the door and will be a tough out in the playoffs.
Michael Wilbon is clueless when it comes to basketball. Before the game on ABC’s NBA Shoot Around he said the winning team was going to have to score 126 points to win the game. I would suggest ABC eliminate asking their guys, Wilbon, Jon Barry and the former NBA player with the bow tie to give Bold Statements; they were all wrong on what to look for in the game.
Spike Lee was at the game.
BYU is for real. Over the weekend they went on the road and beat San Diego State; the Aztecs were ranked 6th coming into this game. You know this game was big because CBS was in the house. BYU made 14 three-pointers against SD State, shooting like that on the road is rare, especially in a hostile environment. The Cougars have a chance to be a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. They are ranked 7th in the nation and have a record of 27-2. ”They’re Final Four good,” said San Diego State coach Steve Fisher. Kudos to BYU head coach Dave Rose, he has done a fine job. I have watched this team four times this season and have been following them closer and closer as we get to the tournament. We all know about Jimmer Fredette who scores 27PPG but what people may find surprising is he leads the team in assists. How many leading scorers lead their team in assists? On Saturday Jimmer scored 25 points and handed out 9 assists. Cougars Noah Hartsock, Charles Abouo and Jackson Emery all scored in double figures. Jimmer also shoots 90% from the free-throw line. They are more than a one-man team. I’m a believer.
