Tom Izzo, head basketball coach at Michigan State is in the news. The Cleveland Cavaliers want him as their new head coach but he’s under contract with the Spartans. Tough, tough decision for one of the best. There’s been so much written about this situation and talked about on Sports Radio. Who really knows what Coach Izzo will do? There’s pro’s and con’s to taking the job and of course there’s pro’s and con’s at Michigan State. All I know is he’s a hell of a coach and whichever way he goes, will be a great decision.
K’Zoo Gazette with an interesting situation between Western Michigan and the University of Michigan. WMU head coach Steve Hawkins is upset with John Beilein for hiring away an assistant coach.
“Tampering — that’s what this is,” Hawkins said Wednesday morning. “It’s the same thing if you come in on a verbal commitment (made by a recruit).
“This isn’t something I plan on staying real quiet about. I think it’s just wrong. He’d been on campus (for about a week). We introduced him to the players.”
To me there’s nothing wrong with what Beilein did in hiring Lavelle Jordan.
Lakers and Celtics resume their series tonight. LA leads 2-1 in the best of seven. I have never seen a player like Ray Allen go through what he did in back to back games. In game two Allen broke the finals record with 8 three-point field goals made followed up by an 0-13 performance from the field in-game 3. Shaking my head…
A friend sent me some old basketball newspapers and magazines from way back in the late 70′s and early 80′s. I had to laugh at all the gambling ads in Basketball Weekly. Not to mention the many articles on deviant behavior displayed by the players during that era.
Summer basketball camps starting up all across the country. A great time for young kids to freshen up on their skills, learn new ones and most important, build friendships.
“Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game.”
