JUCO COACH

After completing my first year at Jackson Community College as men’s head basketball coach in Jackson, Michigan I have come to realize a few things – with one being…

They can not only play well at this level but there are a few good coaches.

Take Mike Ingram from Lansing Community College and Steve Schmidt from Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan.

Both guys have been at their respective schools for many years and have won close to 800 games combined.

Yesterday they battled for the State championship in Flint with Mott coming out on top.

They head into this week’s regionals to determine who gets to go to the Nationals.

Ingram has sent many players to four year schools and so has Schmidt. They recruit well, run excellent stuff on offense and their players play hard. They display passion for the game, care about their players and love to compete.

Each year I see many division one assistant coaches get the chance of a lifetime to move up the ladder and run their own program – but if I’m an athletic director at a mid-major school and looking for a head coach, I’m going to make sure I give these guys a call to see if they are interested.
