You hear it all time time; “he’s a good coach”, or how about, “he’s not the right guy for the job.” (I actually have heard certain fans as of late bashing their coach because they are not doing as well as they did before)
Scotty Bowman, a great hockey coach, actually he’s one of the best ever on why he was such a good coach via Canadiens.com.
“well I had great players that made me look good”
Hmmm…great players, imagine that?

A good basketball coach, for example, drills his players in mechanics and fundamentals for them to succeed. His strategy for winning is based on his deep understanding of the game. The educator professes his chosen discipline as a technique that people can use for inquiry and for solving problems. That basketball coach, of course, had better know basketball. What about the English teacher? Must he know English, be a master thereof? Common sense knows this to be a stupid question.

John Dunne at Saint Peter’s College on his first two seasons at the Jersey City college. Hudson Reporter.com reports.
“We lost some really close ones,” Dunne said, trying to put his finger on what really went wrong. “We lost some close ones at home. We had a nine-point lead with two minutes left against Fairfield and lost. We lost to Loyola when we had a chance to win. If I try to put it all into perspective, I’d say that we have a lot of freshmen who are learning how to play, especially defend, on the college level. They’re fighting through the first semester academically and getting used to college life. Added Dunne, “They all just hit the wall, got some fatigue and have proven that they’re just not ready to compete at this level night after night. We’ve been trying to get our guys to play for 40 minutes, and they’ve been inconsistent. With so many young guys, we don’t have the mental focus for an entire game, and you just can’t win that way.”

THE COACHING PROFESSION IS NOT A ONE HUNDRED METER DASH. IT’S A ONE-MILE RELAY RACE!
